WHAT IS MICROCIRCULATION?

Microcirculation is a complex process of blood movement in the smallest vessels of the body, which ensures the exchange of essential tissue metabolism and includes transport of blood and lymph to the microvessels, exchange between blood capillaries and interstitial fluid, and redistribution of blood through special vascular connections.

The microcirculatory bed (MCB) consists of a branched vascular network. Its main structural elements are:

  • Terminal arterioles β€” small arteries preceding capillaries;
  • Metarterioles β€” intermediate vessels;
  • Precapillary sphincters β€” regulatory elements;

  • Venules β€” small venous vessels;
  • Arteriovenous anastomoses β€” connections between arterioles and venules;

The diameter of arterial-type vessels does not exceed 50–100 ΞΌm, venous-type vessels β€” 200 ΞΌm, lymphatic microvessels β€” 300 ΞΌm.

The main functions of microcirculation include regulation of blood flow in tissues, exchange of gases and nutrients, and maintaining tissue homeostasis. This ensures effective communication between cells and microvessels.

WHAT IS MICROCIRCULATION?

Microcirculation is a complex process of blood movement in the smallest vessels of the body. It ensures vital tissue metabolism and includes the transport of blood and lymph through microvessels, the exchange of substances between capillaries and interstitial fluid, and the redistribution of blood through special vascular connections (arteriovenous anastomoses).

The microcirculatory bed (MCB) consists of a branched vascular network. Its main structural elements are:

The diameter of arteriolar-type vessels (arterioles, metarterioles, precapillaries, and capillaries) does not exceed 50–100 ΞΌm. Venular-type vessels measure up to 200 ΞΌm, and lymphatic microvessels up to 300 ΞΌm.

The main functions of microcirculation include regulation and distribution of blood flow in individual organs and ensuring transcapillary exchange in tissues. These important characteristics distinguish microcirculation from blood flow in large vessels. Unlike major vessels, microvessels are not structural components of organs. This enables effective communication between organ cells and the microvascular network.
